Tuning is an approximately 15-minute experimental film that uses durational cinema as a methodological tool to investigate how variable short-video playback speeds are recalibrating young users' perception of time — what acceleration has trained us to skip past, and what returns when a viewer is held inside duration they cannot fast-forward.
The film tracks a single character through two opposing temporal regimes. Its first half compresses everyday life into a punishing, near-stop-motion tempo, until repetition stops registering as repetition and the day becomes weightless. A series of almost imperceptible cracks then interrupts this automatic rhythm, and the film opens into long takes that restore weight, friction, and lived time to actions the edit had previously swallowed. The closing image places the accelerated self and the slow self on the same street, walking at different speeds — letting the question of which one we have become hang unresolved. Tuning asks the viewer to inhabit slowness as a perceptual proposition rather than a stylistic one, and to test, in their own body, what a screen-trained sense of time has cost.
