Modular Rhythm is an interactive audiovisual installation exploring the relationship between live-coded sound and real-time generative visuals. Built using Strudel for sound synthesis and TouchDesigner for visual output, the system creates a responsive feedback loop between audio and image.
Participants engage with a live-coded Strudel environment by modifying key parameters through an accessible controller — directly influencing the evolving soundscape and foregrounding ideas of shared authorship. Audio data is simultaneously transmitted into TouchDesigner, where parameters are mapped to visual behaviours such as form, movement, and intensity, so that sound actively constructs the image rather than merely accompanying it.
Positioned within contemporary practices of live coding and generative art, the work combines the observational space of an exhibition with the collective, immersive dynamics of rave culture — exploring whether an installation can recreate shared experience by positioning the audience as active contributors.
