‘Sylvie’s Theatre’ is an experimental short film that follows a young woman through a strange but delicately comforting dreamscape.
The film is draped around a loose narrative, that begins with a girl as she prepares herself for sleep. We follow her through to the new location of a spectral lost cinema.
The work interweaves themes of threshold, liminality, surrealism and esotericism. It hinges on the juxtaposition between the attractive surface of the decorative image and a mood of crisis, melancholy and rupture.
Compositionally, the film is a tapestry of text, still images, moving sequences, portraiture and material objects. Creating a hauntology of lost futures and the persistence of the past.
