Shaza Hafez, God's Rage

Short FilmImmersive Screening

"God's Rage" is an experimental two-part documentary that focuses on a "Rage Room" in Beirut, Lebanon (with a remarkable 85% female audience). A rage room is a place where people can destroy objects, etc. With a blend of interviews, surrealist elements, poetry, archive footage and philosophical contemplation, Shaza looks into the emotions of Middle Eastern women through this market for anger - xontextualised in a country renowned for its fiery spirit. Shaza's approach also draws on psychological research: she investigates the effects of shame and suppressed emotions on women's mental health and sexuality.

N.B.: The rage room will not be presented as an outlet for women to escape the "oppressive Middle Eastern man."
