Yemeng Shu, Echoes of Fear

"Echoes of Fear" will act as a tangible discovery of the unique and novel elements of Asian horror movies. The original contributions of the video incorporate not only the recreation of horror techniques practically but also delivering a firsthand comprehension of the impact of the genre to the viewers. The video consists of two short films: one skilfully prsents the psychological elements of horror through the application of atmospheric tension to generate feelings of suspense and fear without being heavily dependent on visual shock; the other showcases the contemporary approach of modern Asian horror films which are dependent on immediate, sudden and visceral responses from the audience. The video essay will be a juxtaposition of these techniques, highlighting the shift from the psychological to a more explicit method of generating fear.
