‘Distant connections’ is a simulation game, inspired by the aesthetics of the late 90s - early 2000s and the early internet, where players take on the role of a museum guard who comes to discover a long-abandoned online platform. Search through the displayed computer, a monument and avenue to someone’s digital identity, and discover the community its previous owner belonged to.
The game, through its branching narrative, encourages its players to comprehend the efforts required to maintain online communities. Accentuating the importance of platforms permitting the formation of new communities about the most niche of topics, the work additionally addresses developing concern in regard to how these connections can be endangered by the will of those who own the platforms.
