‘Confess Your Sins’ is a short film installation exploring the hidden lives of Southern Black witches, showing how witchcraft has influenced one Southern Black woman’s life. Enter the confession booth alone and close the curtain — sit down, put on the headphones, and press play. You will hear Marie tell her story, a narrative shaped by secrecy, spirituality, and survival. The confessional setting deliberately invokes the tension between Christianity and Black witchcraft, repurposing a space of admitted sin as sanctuary for practices condemned by the Church yet central to Black Southern life. Through this confessional framework, the work examines how Black spiritual practices have been simultaneously erased and sensationalised on screen, and how reclaiming these narratives contributes to African American self-definition. Take your time. The booth protects Marie’s story.
